About Chemistry Department
Department of Chemistry, PAHER University
PAHER University’s Faculty of Science was started in Pacific University in the year 2011 with Department of Chemistry at its first department. The rapidly growing chemical, pharmaceutical, polymer, industry and requirement of green chemical processes is demanding for more and more research and development personnel. The present number does not meet this requirement and therefore, there is a pressing demand on the Universities into produce trend persons in Chemical Sciences and then only, the present gap can be fulfilled. The department has designed courses looking to the need of various chemical industries. Department of Chemistry offers offers a specialization in Organic and Industrial Chemistry. Starting with the 2024 25 academic session, two additional specializations have been introduced: Inorganic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.
Pacific University’s Chemistry curriculum moves smoothly from fundamentals to industry focused expertise. Students first master structure elucidation and quantitative analysis via advanced spectroscopic and analytical courses. They then explore the life science interface through bioinorganic, medicinal, and natural product chemistry, while the organic track covers modern reactivity, heterocycles, and photochemistry. Inorganic depth comes with coordination, organometallic, and polymer chemistry. A four part Industrial Chemistry sequence builds process scale skills, safety, and sustainability. Collectively, these modules produce analytically sharp, innovation ready graduates for research labs and chemical industries alike.
For a B.Sc graduate, chemistry holds significant importance as it forms the backbone of various scientific and industrial fields. The knowledge gained during the course helps in understanding the principles behind chemical reactions, material properties, and analytical techniques, which are essential in sectors like pharmaceuticals, agriculture, environmental science, and manufacturing. It also develops critical thinking, laboratory skills, and a scientific approach to problem-solving. Whether pursuing higher education, preparing for competitive exams, or entering the workforce, a strong foundation in chemistry equips graduates with versatile skills and opens up diverse career opportunities in both academic and applied science domains.
Research students of the department are working in diverse fields of Green Chemistry, Photochemistry, Solarcells, Sonochemistry, Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Catalysis, Material Sciences, Polymer Chemistry, Nanochemistry, Quantum Dots, Photoreduction of Carbon Dioxide, etc. The laboratories of the department are well equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipments supported by a well stocked library.
